Prologue
Gårdisto doesn't begin with fashion. It begins with a legacy — shaped, like the archipelago itself, over a very long time.
For generations, the family lived close to the islands. Out there, the sea was never just a place. It was a direction. What remains in the archipelago is never built quickly. It is weathered into being.

My family comes from Vyborg, in Karelia. When the city was lost during the war, more than four hundred thousand people were forced to leave their homes. My family was part of that history.
What had been built over generations disappeared almost overnight. Homes were left behind. Land was abandoned.
But the values endured.
Hard work. Craftsmanship. Quiet strength.

A deep connection to nature, and to the sea.
Decades later, life by the water continues. In the archipelago, mornings still arrive slowly. The horizon is still the loudest thing in the room.

Gårdisto was born where the Swedish and Finnish archipelagos meet. Two languages. Two cultures. Bound together by the same landscape, the same light, the same long winters.
We make garments for a Nordic way of life —

and meaning over trends.

The foundations were built
long before Gårdisto.
These photographs show my grandfather Rune building our family's archipelago cabin by hand. Long before Gårdisto existed, the values that define our brand today — craftsmanship, patience, durability and respect for the Nordic landscape — were already part of our family's way of life.
